What is Podiatry?
Podiatry is the specialist healthcare profession focused on the health of your feet, ankles and lower limbs. Podiatrists assess, diagnose and treat a wide range of problems, from common foot pain, corns, calluses and ingrown toenails to more complex issues affecting how you walk and move. Looking after your feet can have a significant impact on your comfort, mobility and overall quality of life.
Why choose Podiatry?
James DeRosa is a registered HCPC BSc (Hons) Podiatrist with 5 years of experience working within the NHS and a further 4 years in private practice. His specialism is in musculoskeletal conditions and nail surgery, with a particular passion for helping people overcome pain and injury so they can get back to doing the things they love. James takes a personalised approach to every patient, taking the time to understand your goals, identify the underlying cause of your problem and create a treatment plan that works for you. Whether you're dealing with an ongoing foot problem, recovering from an injury, or looking to get back to fitness and sport, aiming to provide expert, friendly care that gets you moving confidently again.
What does a Podiatrist treat?
We offer a range of podiatry treatments tailored to your individual needs. Your appointment will begin with an assessment of your feet and lower limbs, followed by advice and treatment based on what we find. Depending on your needs, this may include treatment for:
- nail care
- fungal nails
- ingrowing nails
- corns and calluses
- foot and ankle pains
- orthotics/insoles
- verruca needling
When should I get in touch?
You don't need to wait until a foot problem becomes painful or starts affecting your everyday life. If you've noticed a change, have persistent discomfort, or something doesn't feel quite right, it's worth getting it checked. Equally, if you've been living with a foot problem for months or even years, it's not too late to seek help. Many conditions can be treated or managed effectively, and a podiatrist can advise you on the best approach for your individual circumstances.
How long does a Podiatry appointment take?
Our initial appointment will take 45 minutes, they take a little longer as we’ll take the time to understand your concerns, assess your feet and discuss the best treatment options with you. Follow up appointments will typically take 30 minutes.
What can I expect at my first appointment?
Your first appointment is all about understanding your feet, your concerns and how we can help. We’ll discuss your symptoms and medical history, carry out a thorough assessment, including the check of your pulses and sensations, and explain our findings clearly. Where appropriate, we can begin treatment during your first appointment and recommend any further care or advice you may need.
Can Podiatry help with foot and heel pain?
Yes. Podiatry can help identify the underlying causes of many types of foot and heel pain. We’ll assess your feet, movement and symptoms to understand what may be contributing to your discomfort, then recommend a treatment plan tailored to you. This may include treatment, exercises, footwear advice, orthotics/insoles or other appropriate interventions.
Is Podiatry suitable for children?
Yes. Podiatry can be suitable for children of all ages, particularly when they have concerns with their feet, walking, posture, nails or skin. If you’re worried about your child’s feet or the way they walk or move, we can assess them and provide appropriate advice and treatment.
