Complementary Therapies

At Belmont House as part of our commitment to provide complete care tailored to the needs of the individual, we understand that as well as osteopathy, there are a number of other forms of complementary therapy that can be beneficial to our patients. As well as our in-house practitioners below, we also have a good network of practitioners providing other complementary therapies locally. Please contact us for more information.

All of our practitioners are highly skilled professionals with full indemnity insurance. Please contact us if you require any further information.

Sports, Therapeutic and Deep Tissue Massage

Both Sports and Therapeutic massage are an effective form of deep tissue massage which complements osteopathy. Deep tissue massage works on the soft tissues of the body, helping to improve circulation and healing so restoring good function of the muscles. Treatment aims to improve the flexibility and suppleness of muscles and joints, helping to prevent damage occurring in the future.

As well as the numerous physiological benefits, massage can help to:

  • ease deep muscular tension
  • relax and aid general well-being
  • promote improved flexibility and mobility of muscles and joints
  • promote recovery from injury
  • reduce stress and anxiety

Each session focuses on the individuals requirements and will include home exercise plans and advice to enhance the benefits of treatment and to aid rehabilitation where indicated.

Acupuncture is the use of very fine needles to stimulate the healing processes of the body. It is a safe, gentle and very effective therapy, tailored specifically to each patient’s needs.  Research shows acupuncture reduces inflammation, improves circulation, helps regulate blood pressure and triggers the release of natural pain-relieving chemicals. Acupuncture is now recommended in the NICE guidelines for people suffering from chronic pain, including illnesses such as arthritis, ulcerative colitis and endometriosis.

Elizabeth studied for a degree in Acupuncture at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading.  Alongside Chinese Medicine theory and acupuncture, Elizabeth developed skills in additional therapies such as cupping and gua sha, which complement and enhance the effects of acupuncture, the benefits of which she would be happy to discuss with you. She also has an in-depth understanding of conventional medicine. Elizabeth is a member of the British Acupuncture Council, which regulates the profession.
